The 2nd<\/sup> AmChams Regional Economic Summit (ARES) welcomed more than 150 high level business-, NGO-, and political representatives in on June 12\u201313, 2025, as well as organizing 120 b2b meetings. The conference was held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it continued the momentum of the highly successful inaugural AmChams Eurasian Economic Summit (AEES) hosted in 2024 in Istanbul. The venue was the Divani Apollon & Thalasso Hotel, Athens, Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a main outcome of the 2nd<\/sup> ARES is the decision that 3rd<\/sup> ARES will be hosted by AmCham Bulgaria, taking the baton from Athens\u201925, and Istanbul\u201924.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AmCham North Macedonia was proud to contribute to two of the Summit\u2019s most dynamic sessions \u2014 on Digital Transformation & AI and Regional Infrastructure Development \u2014 reflecting our commitment to practical regional cooperation and cross-border integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special thank you to RapidBild<\/a>, EPC contractor for the Greece\u2013North Macedonia Gas Interconnector, for supporting the Summit, as well as to our speakers.

In the Regional Infrastructure panel, Toni Karanfilovski, Owner and CEO of Rapid Build, highlighted the importance of enabling frameworks and trusted partnerships, emphasizing that local companies are ready to lead cross-border infrastructure development when supported by harmonized standards and smart regional cooperation.

In the Digital Transformation & AI panel, <\/a>Damjan Manchevski<\/a>, GM Balkans at MAK-SYSTEM <\/a>, emphasized the need for standardized approaches to AI in healthcare, underlining that artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that must be applied responsibly. He also called for overcoming data sovereignty barriers, especially in healthcare, noting that no data is useful if limited by borders.

Regional Summit Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 2nd<\/sup> ARES Opening Session offered genuine messages of the importance and purpose of events such as 2nd<\/sup> ARES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elias Spirtounias<\/strong>, Executive Director, American \u2013 Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, addressed the audience on behalf of the hosting country \/ chamber: \u201cWe are proud to bridge local talent with global markets, connecting CEOs and thought leaders to drive growth. No country can tackle today\u2019s challenges alone \u2014 we need strong partnerships to turn strategy into action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also, included messages from the two of the presidents of the co-organizing AmChams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikolaos Bakatselos<\/strong>, President, American \u2013 Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, emphasized on the expectations businesses face in challenging time: \u201cWhat we are truly talking about is trust \u2013 about forging partnerships that endure. About building Southeast Europe and Caucasus that is not only competitive, but cooperative, confident, and connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emre Karter,<\/strong> Chair, AmCham T\u00fcrkiye, put down the importance of cooperation, thus making a bridge with the messages from Istanbul last year: \u201cIt\u2019s encouraging to see the AmChams Regional Summit grow in both reach and impact. Our strength lies in collaboration \u2013 AmChams are more effective when they work together. Our region is not only of geostrategic important, but also economically dynamic, offering significant investment opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dimitris Skalkos<\/strong>, Secretary General for International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Chairman, Enterprise Greece SA, made an official address: \u201cIn response to the new tariff policy introduced by President Trump, there is no room for complacency. A common EU stance is essential, as we assess the potential impact. Strengthening our collaboration and promoting institutional reforms are key priorities. We believe that reaching a conclusion is both desirable and feasible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The Energy Security and Green Transition<\/strong>\u00a0session highlighted the urgent need for collaborative approaches to meet both climate and energy goals. Experts emphasized that energy challenges transcend national borders, affecting ports, grids, capital flows, and workforce development. The session focused on practical, replicable solutions that neighboring countries can adopt to accelerate the shift to cleaner, more affordable, and reliable energy. Notable speakers included\u00a0Nikos Stamou<\/strong>, Enterprise Greece,\u00a0Mirza Ustamujic,\u00a0<\/strong>Energoinvest,\u00a0Apostolos Mourgos<\/strong>, TEXAN SA, and\u00a0Harris Damaskos<\/strong>, EBRD. The panel was moderated by\u00a0Asli \u00d6zelli<\/strong>, Executive Director, AmCham T\u00fcrkiye.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Overview of Regional Investment Opportunities \u2013 EU Countries<\/strong>, explored the strategic advantages of investing in Southeast Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the wider Eurasian region. With strong institutional support, resilient economies, and skilled talent, the region presents a compelling case for investors aiming to tap into European, Middle Eastern, and Asian markets. Speakers underscored the importance of regional synergies and emphasized collaborative potential beyond individual country strengths. Contributions came from\u00a0Marinos Giannopoulos<\/strong>, CEO of Enterprise Greece;\u00a0Mila Nenova<\/strong>, Executive Director of the InvestBulgaria Agency; and\u00a0Lia Riris<\/strong>, Deputy CEO of Invest Cyprus. Introductory remarks were delivered by\u00a0Leonid Sidorenko<\/strong>\u00a0from the Black Sea Trade & Development Bank.   • The second part of the regional opportunities plenary was dedicated to the business opportunities of the participating Non-EU Countries, including\u00a0Rado\u0161 Gazdi\u0107<\/strong>, Director, Development Agency, Serbia,\u00a0Artur Fedotenko<\/strong>, Senior Expert, Investment Advisory Department, UkraineInvest,\u00a0Natalia Bejan<\/strong>, Director, Invest Moldova,\u00a0Dilshod Jurazoda<\/strong>, Director, State Investment Promotion Agency Tajinvest,\u00a0Uluk Kydyrbaev<\/strong>, Head of Secretariat, Investment Council, Kyrgyz Republic, which was moderated by\u00a0Alexandru Gozun<\/strong>, President, AmCham Moldova.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The Regional Economic Outlook \u2013 Growth, Inflation, and Stability<\/strong>\u00a0session addressed the macroeconomic trends shaping Southeast Europe and the Caucasus. The discussion showcased real-world projects driving regional growth in areas such as digital banking, green logistics, and strategic advisory, underlining how localized success can have a broader impact on cross-border economic development. The panel explored how deeper cooperation \u2013 through shared infrastructure, policy alignment, and innovation \u2013 can unlock new potential for the region. Focus was also given to inclusive and sustainable strategies, including fintech-driven solutions, demographic planning, and green investment initiatives that aim to foster long-term, environmentally responsible growth. Speakers included\u00a0Gabriela Cristina Nistor<\/strong>, CEO of Salt Bank;\u00a0Tigran Jrbashyan<\/strong>, Partner and Director of Management Advisory at Ameria Management Advisory; and\u00a0John D. Saracakis<\/strong>, Chairman of the Saracakis Group of Companies and VP, American Hellenic Chamber of Commerce. The session was jointly moderated by\u00a0Letitia Pupazeanu<\/strong>, Executive Director of AmCham Romania, and\u00a0Anna Nersesyants<\/strong>, Executive Director of AmCham Armenia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Digital Transformation, Innovation, and the AI Revolution<\/strong>\u00a0kicked off with the quotation of the Greek philosopher Heraclitus that \u201cthe only constant in life is change.\u201d Today, this change is exponential. We are witnessing a convergence of breakthroughs \u2013 machine learning, automation, cloud, and generative AI \u2013 that are redefining sectors from healthcare to finance, governance to education. But transformation is not merely digital \u2013 it is strategic, ethical, and deeply human<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Thus, Ivan Mihaylov<\/strong>, CEO, AmCham Bulgaira, took the conversation with Murat Harputlu<\/strong>, SEE International Director, UiPath, Damjan Manchevski<\/strong>, Director of Strategic Accounts & GM for Balkans, MakSystem, Diana Gligorijevic<\/strong>, Co-Owner and CMO, TeleGroup, and Marianna Nathanail,<\/strong> Head, Office in Greece, European Investment Bank Group, and had a key note by Bekir Polat, Vice President at Investment Office of the Presidency of T\u00fcrkiye, who participated in the discussion too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • The keynote speech\u00a0\u201cTo Win With AI, Leaders Must Put Humans First<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0was delivered by\u00a0Fahed Bizzari,<\/strong>\u00a0Managing Partner, Bellamy Alden AI Consulting. He challenged the common \u201cAI First\u201d mindset, warning that it risks devaluing human capital by placing technology above talent. True transformation, he argued, happens\u00a0with<\/em>\u00a0people, not\u00a0despite<\/em>\u00a0them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Leadership for the Future<\/strong><\/em>Plenary\u00a0<\/strong>explored how leadership is evolving in a time marked by global challenges, geopolitical uncertainty, and rapid technological change\u2014particularly with the rise of AI. Panelists discussed the need for adaptive, people-centered leadership that can guide organizations through structural shifts in the regional and global business landscape.
