The U.S. Congressional Delegation led by House Democracy Partnership Chairman Vern Buchanan, and including Representatives Norma Torres, Terri Sewell, John Rutherford, Claudia Tenney, Carlos Gimenez, Anna Paulina Luna, and Jenniffer González-Colón visited North Macedonia on May 5.
The delegation, accompanied by Chargé d’Affaires Eric Meyer, met with Deputy Speaker Goran Misovski and members of North Macedonia’s parliament as well as the Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska discussing the strong security partnership between the two countries and key issues related to strengthening government institutions through legislative oversight, transparency, and citizen-oriented governance.
At the Reception honoring Transatlantic values and friendship the distinguished delegation members met with the representatives from the business community thus addressing the economic relations and business opportunities.
The House Democracy Partnership (HDP) is a bipartisan, twenty-member commission of the U.S. House of Representatives that works directly with parliaments around the world to support the development of effective, independent, and responsive legislative institutions.
Its singular focus on the legislative branch of government and its unique ability to bring together American legislators and their peers from around the world have made the commission a valuable forum for strengthening democratic institutions and deepening bilateral relations.
