In collaboration with the Ministry of Finance Academy, AmCham successfully organized a five-day training program on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and sustainability.
The ultimate objective of this activity was to contribute to the expertise of public sector representatives to develop а more robust regulatory framework and encourage cooperation between the corporate and public sector, aiding the integration of EU acquis into national legislation.
The training, held on December 11, 12, 13, 19, and 20, 2024, is a continuation of our efforts to support ESG integration. These efforts began with the education of member companies, leveraging insights from a readiness and maturity assessment analysis of the corporate sector.
The first part of the training (December 11-13) was led by Ms. Maria Tsiadi, CEO of Impacta Greece. It provided participants with an in-depth understanding of global ESG frameworks, regulations, and the role of public sector policies in driving sustainability.
The second part (December 19-20) featured presentations from ESG Committee members (Alkaloid, EVN, Macedonian Stock Exchange, Makedonski Telekom, Makstil, ProCredit Bank, PwC, and Sparkasse Bank), who shared practical insights into implementing ESG initiatives. Participants explored real-world examples of activities undertaken in each ESG component, complemented by an on-site visit to Pivara AD Skopje, showcasing exemplary ESG practices. The second part of the training also featured a presentation on the findings and recommendations from the assessment titled “Implementation of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in North Macedonia: Impact, Policy Response, and Assistance Needs” delivered by IDEAS DePo in collaboration with USAID and Palladium.
This training reinforced the importance of collaboration among the public institutions as well as between public and private sectors in advancing sustainable development in North Macedonia.
