Every legislative reform raises the question of how effectively the new rules will work in practice. In this context, AmCham North Macedonia reviewed the two draft laws aimed at aligning the country’s customs framework with the Union Customs Code. While recognizing the importance of the proposed reform, AmCham highlighted the need for the EU rules to be transposed in a clear, coherent, and proportionate manner, taking into account the specificities of the national legal and business environment and avoiding unnecessary administrative or compliance burdens. The recommendations focus on ensuring that the transposition of the Union Customs Code is not only legally consistent, but also appropriately adapted to the national context and workable for economic operators in practice.
