AmCham Participate in the Process for Creating a Smart Specialization Strategy

The Smart Specialization Strategy aims to build a modern approach to economic development based on knowledge, innovation, and linking science and business. It focuses on identifying the key domains where the country has the expertise, capacity, and competency, based on national economic, innovative, and research potentials.

Four key domains have been identified within this project, and three thematic workshops for each of those domains will be held in the first quarter of this year.

In February, AmCham members took part in SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) Workshops in two identified key domains:

  • Smart agriculture and food industry with higher value-added products, and
  • ICT

The other two key domains are Industry 4.0 and smart/sustainable facilities and materials, including the circular economy concept.

Horizon areas that are interrelated and should be integrated into the new development concept are energy and tourism.

In March, two additional workshops will be held within this process:

  1. VISION Workshop – to define the strategic goals as well as the vision for each of the domains, and
  2. POLICY MIX Workshop – to define guidelines for public policymaking, support measures, and pilot projects.
